All Music Together teachers have successfully completed the live Music Together Teacher Training, which is built on research in early childhood and music development. We keep our skills fresh through workshops every semester and advanced trainings offered by Music Together Worldwide.
Clara O’Brien has been teaching music to thousands of children for the last twenty years. She has always loved music and some of her earliest memories are singing around the piano with her parents and seven siblings. As the years passed, Clara studied piano and musical theory through the Royal Conservatory, took voice and violin lessons, joined many choirs and obtained a Bachelor of Education degree. When her family gets to reunite, they love to gather with their voices and instruments around the piano and make music and harmony together. Clara loves to share the treasure of music with other families.
For twelve years, she taught vocal music in Canadian elementary schools. While teaching elementary music, Clara loved to form and direct choirs, introducing children to the wonderful joy of singing in harmony. Applying her Orff certification and Kodaly training, Clara grounded her students' learning of beat, rhythm, pitch, chord progressions, and musical expression in kinesthetic experiences and creative activities. She loved putting on dramatic musical productions of classic stories such as The Nutcracker, The Sound of Music and the Jungle Book. Throughout the years, Clara has enjoyed teaching private piano and voice lessons and watching her many students' individual musical development.
After coming to Virginia, Clara was happy to teach music to the students at St. Benedict School and enjoyed getting to know many families in Richmond. With the birth of her daughter, Lydia, Clara discovered Music Together’s excitingly rich curriculum and developmentally appropriate philosophy for early childhood. She has enjoyed learning the songs, dances, instruments and activities along with Lydia. Clara is passionate about sharing the joy of music together classes with children and families.
